When entering in an election and forming a campaign it is very important that a candidate receive a great deal of support from many sources. When a democratic candidate is running for office the majority of this support comes from the Democratic National Committee. The Democratic National Committee is responsible for promoting party candidates in elections, providing financial support, as well as technical support for party members running for office, assisting with campaign strategies, and planning nominating conventions. They also work with state and national organizations and office holders in order to assist democratic voters in obtaining their needs and wishes. He later went on to win the 2008 general election and became the first African American president in the history of the United States.
