Conservative Republicans

One issue that causes a substantial amount of confusion and distress within the political realm of the United States is that there are only two primary terms for classifying individuals based on their political beliefs. An individual is usually labeled as either democratic or republican. Democrats are generally considered to be liberal, while republicans tend to practice conservative politics. However, there is a great deal or variation on views and beliefs that exist within each party. Not all republicans are conservative all of the time, just as not all democrats are liberal all of the time. For this reason an individual may be termed a conservative republican or a conservative democrat, as well as a liberal republican or a liberal conservative. Throughout history conservative politics have been the primary form of politics within the United States, and recent surveys illustrate that 40% of American identify as conservative. Conservative politics emphasizes practices that are based on tradition and seeks to create consistency and stability. Many times conservative politics and religion are intertwined, as conservatives are often very religious and believe that American values should be based on Christian morals. All policy should be guided by Christian values. Much of conservative politics is based on the fundamental beliefs in a strong military, lower taxes and capitalism, as well as a small federal government.

Within the Republican Party individuals can vary from a liberal republican to a conservative republican, and some people find that their views vary and usually fall in the middle. A conservative republican is someone who puts morals and Christian values before politics and believes that these Christian principles should be at the heart of the government and all of the policies that are created. A Conservative republican will have a political agenda that does not support same sex marriage. They believe that marriage should only take place between a man and a woman. Same sex marriage is wrong. They also approve of the idea that openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual individuals have no place serving in the military. Someone who supports conservative politics will be pro-life and not support a woman’s right to choose. They believe that a child is alive from the moment of conception. Therefore, abortion is murder. A Conservative republican will be against immigration, especially illegal immigration. They do not believe that an amnesty program should be available for illegal immigrants as this would do nothing to deter illegal immigrants. A Conservative republican will support lowering taxes and be opposed most public welfare programs. Conservative republicans also believe that the government should be smaller and spend less money. This is the only way that national debt will be repaid. They think that more power should be given back to the state government. Mike Huckabee is one example of a conservative republican. He is the 44th governor of Arkansas, as well as an ordained Baptist minister. In the 2008 primary elections he ran for a spot as the republican nominee for the presidential election. He lost to Senator John McCain.
