The term politics refers to the process through which a population or a group of people make a mutual decision usually related to a form of government. Politics also includes the methods that are used in order to regulate society and the means that are used in order to create and apply different policies. Politics may involve the use of schemes or cunning strategies to obtain power or a position of control. There are many different types of governments that are all structure differently and employ the use of politics differently. Some of these types of governments are monarchies, dictatorships, paramilitaries and republics. No form of government or use of politics can be deemed as the best, as different types of governments are successful in different countries around the world depending on their culture, history, and the significance and structure of social hierarchies. Within the government there are often different political parties that compete against each other for power. This often leads to debate and arguments between parry members and party supporters. There are many resources available to individuals for the discussion and debate of politics. Political blogs and forums allow people to learn and debate about all things related to politics. Political news found in the newspaper, online or on the radio keeps people updated on the latest happenings in politics around the world. There are many newsletters and journals available that discuss politics, such as The Politic, which is an undergraduate journal of politics published by Yale University,

The term politic refers to anything that uses or promotes the use of policy in decision making, or anything that proceeds from or is associate with the use of policy. The ancient Greeks used to view the government as a body. One body part can not function properly without the support of all of the other body parts. Through this idea the term body politic was formed. The term body politic refers to the individuals residing in a country who compose a body of coordinated citizens. It involves the entire group as a whole, from the leaders of the government down to the most ordinary citizen. The term body politic illustrates the idea that a government must function as a whole. The head of a body is useless without the rest of the body, and a government can not function properly without the entire group working as a whole and supporting each other. The common people are just as important to the success and prosperity of a government as the government leaders are. Often a government depends entirely on the people and functions to carry out the wishes of the people as well as protect them and keep them safe from interior and exterior threats. Other times the people are not happy with the government and an uprising will occur, in which the government is overthrown. Either way the people play an important role in whether a government will succeed or fail. The people need to approve of the government and politics that are being implemented or the government will not function correctly.
